Frequently asked
Is BBL safe?
BBL has historically had the highest mortality of any cosmetic procedure due to fat embolism risk. Modern subcutaneous-only injection technique (no intramuscular fat) has dramatically reduced fatal events. The single most important safety question to ask your surgeon: 'Will you inject only into subcutaneous tissue, never intramuscularly?'
How much fat survives a BBL?
About 60–70% of transferred fat survives long-term. The rest is reabsorbed by your body over 3–6 months. Surgeons over-fill knowing this, so the immediate post-op shape is typically larger than the final result.
How long can I sit after a BBL?
No direct sitting on the buttocks for 2–3 weeks. After that, sitting is allowed for limited periods on a BBL pillow that shifts pressure to the thighs. Many surgeons require strict sitting protocols for 6–8 weeks.
Can you get a BBL if you're skinny?
Yes — 'skinny BBL' uses limited fat to enhance contour and snatched waist rather than adding significant volume. Patients with very low body fat may need to gain a bit before surgery to have enough harvestable fat.
How long does a BBL last?
The fat that survives the first 6 months is permanent. Significant weight gain or loss changes the result — the transferred fat behaves like the donor area's fat would.
